YOUTH FOR ETHICAL TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE
Advancing technology as a force for good through discourse, education, and advocacy.
The Youth for Ethical Technology Institute is the first youth movement aimed at advancing technology for social good. Through socioethical discourse, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts, we stand for equity and justice in the design and deployment of rising technology. We study algorithmic bias, data privacy concerns, and other harms of technology under interdisciplinary conditions to understand how we can best employ machines to work in harmony with minds and vastly improve the human condition.
Our educational initiatives
AI ETHICS CLASSES
We will have free AI ethics classes for elementary-middle school students in batches over the summer. These classes take a unique approach to the basics of artificial intelligence and algorithmic design, with a strong emphasis on its societal impacts. We hope to grow passionate, informed, and ethically conscious young technologists through this program. All classes will take place through Zoom.
TECHNOLOGY ETHICS WORKSHOPS
We are partnering with hackathons and nonprofit organizations to introduce a series of free technology ethics workshops for people of all ages. These will typically feature invited guest speakers who are studying the socioethical implications of rising technology, as well as our AIx fellows. We aim to educate technologists about the ethical ramifications of their work and equip them with the skills needed to put social justice at the center of the systems they build.
Our AIx fellows will engage in interdisciplinary discourse, which we believe is the key to developing ethical technology. This will take place in the form of weekly seminars to discuss ongoing research and developments in AI, as well as a monthly conference centered around a certain social issue that AI affects. These conferences will host invited guest speakers and will be open to the public free of cost.
